I heard a well-known preacher declare; we must fight until we win. I thought, that is so clever, but what does it really mean to fight until we win? With me it seems the fight with satan is never over. How do I know I am winning, if the fight is still going on? So I took a closer look at God's Word to find out what I could about this subject.
Ephesians 6:13-15 says, "Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and HAVING DONE ALL TO STAND. STAND THEREFORE, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace."
Reading this scripture brings to mind this saying, may the best man win; because we know the person that is left STANDING after a fight is declared the winner. In the spiritual realm, it's really not that much different. No matter what the devil tries to throw in our path, as long as we STAND on the Word of God and keep on STANDING, we are winning. But we must remember, its not a hearer of the Word that is justified, it's a doer. When the Word says STAND, it means STAND. We can't lay down on the battlefield and expect to win.
Just as an old house that has weathered many a storm, torn and tattered, yet it remains standing. We too, must stand no matter what. To fight until we win simply means, as long as we are STANDING we are WINNING. I don't care how long the fight lasts.
Every battle that was ever severe enough to send me to my knees brought me to my feet fighting like a Christian. I wrote a little song a few years ago that goes like this:
Are you a Christian?
Are you a mouse?
Stand up to Satan
Or do without
You've heard the saying
Fight like a man
Are you a Christian?
Are you a Mouse?
If we are to win the battles we are in, we need to fight like a Christian man or woman, which ever the case may be. We need to STAND UP and fight the devil until we win.
If the devil comes at you like a category 4 hurricane, don't let the winds of distress knock you down. STAND UP and rebuke the storm. If he sends a tornado your way, destroying everything in its path, remember he may stir up a little dust, but when the dust settles, he'll be under your feet.
One thing is for certain, no matter what type of storm the enemy sends our way; we will remain STANDING if we are STANDING on the Word. The Word is our Rock and our Rock is JESUS.
Remember this scripture, Matthew 7:24-27.
Verse 24:Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock;
Verse 25: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Verse 26: And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
Verse 27: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
WHEN WE JUST CAN'T FIGHT ANYMORE
There will be times when we will feel we don't have the heart to fight anymore. But as long as we remain STANDING on God's Word, we are winning. God gives strength to the weak. He will even fight our battles for us. (We will get into that in the next section). Maybe you are facing one of those times right now where you feel like you just can't go on. If you have stopped to rest or get your second wind, spiritually speaking, allow God to renew your strength and carry you back into battle. The Word says in Galatians 6:9, And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Don't let your time of rest turn into a fainting spell or worse, a severe case of laziness.
Which brings me to this point...
There will be times when we can't do anything about our circumstances. It is not that we are lazy, tired or worn, it's just we have done all we can do. That's when we just keep on STANDING like the Bible says; when you have done all to stand, STAND THEREFORE. It is during these turbulent times, when we have to depend on God to bring us out, that our faith in HIM is made strong.
THE LORD WILL FIGHT FOR US
When the enemy has us surrounded, we have no way out, the Lord will fight for us. Sometimes the Lord will allow us to be backed into a corner to test our faith in His combat ability. Did you know that David let God fight his battle and He won? Did you know that the Lord won the battle at the Red Sea for Moses and the Israelites? Pharaoh and his army were drowned. We must trust God for He is our deliverer.
And, let us not forget that we are soldiers in the army of God. We have a uniform to wear and weapons in which to fight with. Lets go back to Ephesians 6 where it says, Put on the whole armor, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. It gives a whole wardrobe of what we are to wear and what we are to use as weapons. I have already written an article on this, we do have spiritual clothes to wear and we need to put them on. Don't be walking around naked and unarmed before the enemy. That would be stupid and dangerous. Stay prepared at all times. Your adversary the devil walks about seeking whom he may devour.
THE MEANING OF THE WORDS, FIGHT UNTIL WE WIN:
The literal meaning of the word "WIN," according to The World Book Dictionary, is to succeed in making or finding one's way. If we use the Bible as our road map, we will succeed in finding our way. So everyday that we stay on track with the Word, we are winning. Winners never lose and losers ever win. Winners "fight to find a way to win" while losers look for ways to "quit trying to win."
Fight means, a violent struggle, combat, or conflict. It's not always easy. There will be some struggling involved. Remember Jacob, he wrestled with an angel and said to him, I won't let you go until you bless me. Are we no different, don't we want to be blessed? Of course we do. Are we willing to fight for our blessing is the real question?
Ephesians 6:12 says, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Our fight is a spiritual fight. May we be as Paul, and fight the good fight of faith. (I Timothy 6:12)
CONCLUSION:
We can't win setting down. We must STAND UP, FIGHT like a Christian and FIGHT UNTIL WE WIN!
